About therapy…

Your hearts know in silence the secrets of the days and the nights.
But your ears thirst for the sound of your heart's knowledge.
You would know in words that which you have always known in thought.
You would touch with your fingers the naked body of your dreams.

And it is well you should.
The hidden well-spring of your soul must needs rise and run murmuring to the sea;
And the treasure of your infinite depths would be revealed to your eyes.
But let there be no scales to weigh your unknown treasure;
And seek not the depths of your knowledge with staff or sounding line.
For self is a sea boundless and measureless.

Say not, "I have found the truth," but rather, "I have found a truth."
Say not, "I have found the path of the soul." Say rather, "I have met the soul walking upon my path."
For the soul walks upon all paths.
The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed.
The soul unfolds itself like a lotus of countless petals.

- Khalil Gibran

Therapy is very personal…therefore also hard to define. I believe therapy is what you make of it. As a therapist I do not see myself as the expert, but rather as the client’s companion on his/her road to self-discovery, a companion that is able to offer a different perception and a safe space in which to explore various possibilities.

I do not believe that someone is the problem but rather that he/she has a problem and that we need to find a way to effectively deal with this problem. In this, the problem is separated from the person and dealt with in such a way that its influence is reduced. Therapy is about the stories of people’s lives and is based on the idea that problems are constructed in social, cultural and political contexts. This is therefore also speaks to ‘postmodernism’ in which there is no one objective ‘truth’ and that there are multiple possible interpretations of any event.

Using this framework I apply different techniques that are customized to each unique person who comes to me for help.
